At your eye examination we usually examine your visual fields. This is the extent of your vision out to the sides and top to bottom. Many conditions can affect your visual fields.
We usually screen patients with the FDT machine but if we find something of concern we will ask you to take the Humphrey VFA test.
The Humphrey VFA test is the gold standard perimetry test used in hospitals to aid diagnosis and monitor glaucoma. The test takes longer to perform than the FDT but it gives a very accurate picture of the visual field.
We also use the Humphreys to perform the Estermann visual field test, which is the test required by the DVLA to assess the standard of visual fields needed for driving.
