What is a Dispensing Optician?
A Registered Dispensing Optician is a highly trained professional, having completed three years at college, who dispenses and fits spectacles and other optical aids, working from the prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists. However, at Burnett Hodd & Tam our opticians go the extra mile, and we pride ourselves in providing a unique and personal dispensing experience.
We start the dispensing experience by having a discussion about you and what you would like or need in your new glasses. Following this, the dispensing opticians select a range of spectacle frames for you to try.
The beauty of our practice is that your time with the dispensing opticians is unlimited. You can spend as long as you want choosing your new look and asking us as many practical questions as you would like about what you have chosen. Our opticians are not bound to using one manufacturer of spectacle lens either and are therefore able to provide the best lens design by the appropriate manufacturer for you as an individual.
For example, do you mainly spend time on your computer? Would the addition of an occupational lens be of more benefit to you? Do you spend a lot of time abroad? Would photochromic or polarised prescription lenses help? What are your hobbies? Do you play a lot of contact sports? Do you need prescription goggles? By understanding your lifestyle, our opticians will recommend the best glasses for your needs.
We only use the highest quality lenses on the glasses that we fit. Prestigious brands like Zeiss but also less known Hoya and Shamir. The last two being exceptional for complex prescriptions.

Our dispensing suite is slightly different from most practices in that we only display a few frames and sunglasses. The majority of our stylish frame collections are stored in drawers. This means you won't be overwhelmed by hundreds of unsuitable frames all looking the same. We also often get delivered frames before any other Optician, so you can be sure you get the most exclusive of experiences.
